A controversial plan of 3.6 million euros for the construction of a conference hall with 450 seats at the headquarters of the Committee of the Regions (CoR) in Brussels has been suspended. The President of CoR, Kata Tüttő, stated to POLITICO that the proposal is "on the waiting list" while political leaders assess its viability. Politicians from CoR learned about the plans only when they were presented for approval, which raised concerns about transparency. Tüttő mentioned that unions will be included in the redevelopment plans, considering the current financial constraints. CoR, an EU body representing local and regional authorities, is seeking more information and consulting the European Economic and Social Committee, which also uses the building. The project has been criticized by unions and employees, with one official describing it as a "megalomaniac plan."
