Greece is preparing to face the first heatwave of this year, after being spared from the extreme temperatures in June that affected Europe. Meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas announced that maximum temperatures in Thessaly, the Peloponnese, and the Athens area could reach or exceed 40 degrees Celsius between Monday and Wednesday. On Saturday, the town of Konitsa recorded the first temperature over 40 degrees Celsius of the season, reaching 40.4 degrees. The national meteorological service EMY has forecasted values of 40-41 degrees Celsius for Monday and Tuesday. This heatwave comes late in July, after rainy episodes and strong winds that prevented the establishment of extreme heat. This is the third time since 2011 that temperatures reach 40 degrees this late in the summer season.
