The authorities in Greece have activated Red Code alerts for wildfires, amid a heatwave that began on Sunday, August 23.
The Attica region, along with eleven other regions, including the islands of Kythera, Evia, Lesbos, and Samos, is under alert due to the significant risk of fires. In this context, local authorities have been instructed to convene civil protection agencies to assess preparedness and risk management measures.
It is estimated that temperatures will range between 38-42 °C in certain areas, and the heatwave will affect much of the country until mid-week, followed by a significant cooling.
