According to a report published by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Met Office in the United Kingdom, global average temperatures could reach record levels in the next five years, with estimates of an increase of 1.3 to 1.9 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial period (1850-1900).

Melissa Seabrook, a researcher at the Met Office, highlighted the clear evidence of climate warming, stating that it is very likely that the global temperature will temporarily exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius for at least one year in the 2026-2030 period. It is also estimated that one year during this period will surpass the heat record set in 2024.

Although temporarily exceeding the 1.5-degree threshold does not mean the failure of the Paris Agreement, Seabrook warned that the window for maintaining this limit is closing rapidly. Additionally, temperatures in the Arctic could rise more than 3.5 times compared to the global average, and sea ice will melt, affecting climate systems.

The report also forecasts wetter conditions in the Northern Hemisphere and a strong El Niño phenomenon, which could contribute to rising global temperatures.
