Social worker from Chișinău, criminally investigated by the NAC for influence peddling in connection with financial aid intended for vulnerable families

A social worker from Chișinău municipality is being investigated for influence peddling after allegedly demanding and receiving 2,000 lei each month from the social assistance granted to a mother raising her three children alone, one of whom has a disability. The searches were conducted this morning by officers of the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the case materials, the social worker allegedly requested the money, claiming to have influence over members of the relevant commission. She allegedly promised that she could persuade them to ensure the continuation of social payments for the vulnerable family.

During the criminal investigation and special investigative measures, the authorities documented several allegedly illegal acts. CNA officers seized evidence considered relevant to establishing the full extent of the alleged criminal activity.

The person concerned is being investigated while at liberty. The investigation continues to identify all suspects and examine possible complicity within the relevant commission. Until a final judgment is issued, she benefits from the presumption of innocence.
