Anti-corruption prosecutors in Chișinău detained a driving instructor who allegedly asked a candidate for 900 euros to obtain a driver's license

A man was detained for 72 hours and placed in the National Anti-Corruption Center’s detention facility after allegedly demanding and receiving €900 from a driving test candidate, claiming he had influence over employees of the Chișinău Driving Test Directorate within the Public Services Agency. According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect allegedly promised that he could persuade officials to favor the candidate’s passing the practical test.

After the money was handed over, the candidate was allegedly declared to have passed the test and received a provisional driving licence. Prosecutors and officers from the National Anti-Corruption Center searched the man’s home and car.

As a result of the searches, investigators seized evidence relevant to the criminal case. The suspect was detained and is to be investigated for the acts identified by prosecutors. The investigation is continuing to clarify all the circumstances and identify any other persons who may have been involved.
