An employee of the National Public Security Inspectorate of the Republic of Moldova was detained by officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Internal Protection and Anti-Corruption Service following searches conducted as part of a corruption investigation. The man is being investigated for passive corruption and influence peddling.
According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, he allegedly demanded and received money from several citizens in exchange for actions contrary to his official duties. The alleged acts include facilitating the issuance of driving licences, unjustifiably removing penalty points, unlawfully cancelling offence reports, and assigning sanctions to other people.
Prosecutors requested the suspect’s pre-trial detention, but the court ordered that he be placed under house arrest. The decision was challenged by prosecutors in Chișinău on Monday, October 26, 2026.
The investigation is continuing to establish all the circumstances and identify the other people involved.
