The United Nations (UN) has warned that the El Nino climate phenomenon is rapidly intensifying, reaching a 'high intensity' between the months of July and September, according to a report from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This phenomenon, which affects global climate patterns, will increase the likelihood of heatwaves, droughts, and heavy rainfall in various regions of the world.

The WMO confirmed that El Nino began in May and will continue to intensify, having a significant impact on global temperatures. In Peru, authorities have declared a state of emergency in 800 municipalities due to heavy rainfall. Forecasts indicate a rise in ocean temperatures in the equatorial Pacific, with anomalies of over 2°C, and a contrast in precipitation globally, with areas affected by drought and others by flooding. The WMO emphasizes that forecasting models are highly consistent, providing a high degree of confidence in the evolution prospects of the phenomenon.
