The Ministry of Education and Research of Romania published, on November 24, 2025, the draft programs for high school, in which artificial intelligence (AI) is integrated into approximately 50% of subjects. AI will be used in subjects such as ICT, Computer Science, Chemistry, History, and Religion, and in the Mathematics-Computer Science specialization, the use of an AI assistant is recommended 'imperatively'. The programs are in public consultation until December 12, 2025, and young people in Romania are leaders in the EU in using AI applications, frequently using them for study and daily activities.
In detail, the ICT subject for the 9th grade details the use of AI, encouraging interaction with chatbots and tools like ChatGPT. In Mathematics, AI is used for exploring and verifying solutions, and in Chemistry, as a tool for recommending resources and virtual simulations. AI is also mentioned in Religion and History for facilitating learning and processing historical sources. However, AI is not included in the programs for Romanian Language and Literature, Biology, or Arts. Although the use of AI can improve learning, there are also associated risks, such as technology dependence and academic integrity.
