Laurent Nunez, the French Minister of the Interior, stated that authorities are investigating a possible foreign interference, after a computer system capable of enabling remote control, used for espionage purposes, was discovered on a ferry in Herault. Italy warned France that the ferry's system could be infected with a 'RAT' type device, which would allow unauthorized access.

The ferry, named Fantastic, was immobilized for 24 hours for searches, and two crew members, a Latvian and a Bulgarian, were arrested. The investigation is coordinated by the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI), specialized in counter-espionage. Nunez mentioned that foreign interferences are frequently associated with a certain country, suggesting a possible link to Russia.
