Transelectrica has successfully completed the technical tests for the first STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) installation in the Electric Transport Network, located at the 400/220/110/20 kV Sibiu Sud electrical substation. This represents the first stage of a larger project, which includes the installation of two modern reactive power compensation devices at the Sibiu Sud and Bradu substations, with a total value of 260 million lei, of which 254 million lei are provided by the Modernization Fund. The works are carried out by the Siemens Energy - Electromontaj Association, and the completion of the Bradu substation is estimated for the first part of 2026.
The STATCOM installation contributes to stabilizing the voltage in the network and improves the security of electricity supply, facilitating the integration of renewable energy and responding quickly to load variations. It ensures dynamic voltage regulation, permanent reactive power compensation, and increased stability of the network. The project has a significant impact on national energy security, optimizing the operation of the network under conditions of congestion and variability of consumption. Thus, Transelectrica aims to modernize Romania's energy infrastructure and support the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
