The National Company for Electric Energy Transport Transelectrica carried out on September 1 the first activation of a supply group of reserves (GFR) made up exclusively of controllable consumption points. The activation took place between 12:00 and 12:30, at the disposal of the National Energy Dispatcher, delivering a reserve of 3 MW by temporarily reducing consumption.
This activation is significant as it marks the first time that demand, not production, provides balancing energy. The consumption flexibility mechanism was recently approved by ANRE, allowing consumers to be compensated for temporarily reducing consumption. The group was formed by the aggregator Flexumers, which passed the technical qualification tests.
This initiative offers consumers a pathway to access the Balancing Market, generating revenue without the need for investments in production capacity. The activation confirms the potential of consumption to respond effectively to the dispatcher's requirements, thus contributing to the security of the energy system. Transelectrica, as a transmission and system operator, plays an essential role in the functioning of the electricity market in Romania.
