The state company Transelectrica, the operator of the national energy system, reported a significant increase of 52% in physical electricity export flows in the first three months of 2026, compared to the same period in the previous year.

In contrast, electricity imports remained at last year's level, while domestic consumption remained almost constant. Domestic net electricity production increased by 7% compared to the first three months of 2025, despite a 12% decrease in nuclear production, caused by the simultaneous shutdown of both Units of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant for 20 days. This situation highlights the dynamics of the energy market in Romania and the adaptability of the operator Transelectrica in the context of production changes.
