Hidroelectrica has awarded Synergy Construct a contract worth RON 296.8 million for the design and construction of a battery storage system at the Iron Gates II hydropower plant. The facility will have a capacity of 64 MW and storage capacity of 434.76 MWh, making it the largest in the company's portfolio.
The project was awarded following a public procurement procedure. Synergy Construct will work with several companies, including Kseo Enerji, Professional Land Survey, Zoork, Tripol Sistem Construct, Inemko Insaat Elektrik Telekominikasyon Sanayi Ve Ticaret and Rogotehnic, as subcontractors or third parties.
The battery will allow Hidroelectrica to store the energy produced and deliver it during periods when demand or market prices are higher. The system will help the company optimize its output throughout the day and respond more flexibly to hydrological variations and conditions in the National Power System.
The investment is receiving RON 43.4 million in funding through the Modernization Fund, under the Ministry of Energy's program dedicated to developing battery storage capacity.
The project is part of Hidroelectrica's strategy to diversify and increase the flexibility of its portfolio. The company had announced investments of more than EUR 500 million in storage projects integrated into hydropower facilities and renewable energy parks.
