Tesla has announced that it will eliminate the one-time purchase option for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, starting February 14. CEO Elon Musk stated that Tesla vehicle owners in the U.S. will only be able to access FSD through a monthly subscription of $99, instead of a one-time payment of $8,000. FSD is a driver assistance system that requires drivers to remain attentive and intervene when necessary, and Tesla has added the term "Supervised" to emphasize that the technology does not provide full autonomy. Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into 2.88 million Tesla vehicles equipped with FSD, following reports of possible violations of road safety. Tesla uses an unsupervised version of the software for internal operations, while the Autopilot system assists vehicles in various driving functions.
