European airlines are contesting a new law from the European Parliament that facilitates compensation for flight delays, considering it unrealistic.

The European Parliament's Transport Committee has adopted a text that supports compensation for passengers whose flights are delayed, maintaining the three-hour threshold for compensation. Airlines, represented by A4E, contest this decision, arguing that a delay of up to five hours should be allowed. Negotiations between the Parliament, the European Commission, and the EU Council are expected to be tense, given the divergent positions. The Parliament also proposes to maintain the current rights of passengers, while the aviation industry fears that the new regulations would affect their operations.
