The EU sets a threshold of three hours for compensation for flight delays and demands more transparency regarding hand luggage.

On Friday, the European Union countries agreed to maintain the current three-hour threshold for flight delays that allows passengers to request compensation, as well as to impose greater transparency regarding the costs for hand luggage. This decision comes after a prolonged disagreement between the European Parliament and member states, which rejected the European Commission's proposal to raise the compensation threshold to four hours.

According to the rules from 2004, passengers with delays of over three hours can receive compensation between 250 and 600 euros, depending on the duration of the flight. Additionally, member states proposed that fees for hand luggage be included in the ticket prices, facilitating cost comparison for consumers.

Other essential rights for passengers, such as assistance for children and support in case of missed connections between flights, have been maintained. These measures come in response to criticisms from consumer protection organizations and the penalties imposed on airlines for improper practices.
