Passengers traveling by air within the European Union will be able to bring on board free of charge, starting on 23 October 2027, a cabin bag of up to 7 kilograms, in addition to one personal item, such as a backpack or a small bag.
At present, the rules vary from one airline to another. Some airlines allow only one small bag free of charge, which must be stored under the seat, while passengers must pay separately for a cabin trolley bag.
The new rules will guarantee the right to one personal item measuring no more than 40 centimeters in height, 30 centimeters in width, and 15 centimeters in depth, as well as to a cabin bag weighing no more than 7 kilograms. Its total dimensions may not exceed 100 centimeters.
In addition, airlines will be required to display, from the beginning of the booking process, the ticket price that includes the cabin bag. The measure will allow passengers to compare the actual cost of tickets more easily and avoid additional fees that appear later.
