Passengers traveling by plane in the European Union will benefit from extended compensation and simplified procedures.

The negotiators of the European Parliament and the EU Council have reached a provisional agreement on the revision of air transport rules, expanding passenger rights. Passengers will be able to claim compensation if their flight is delayed by more than three hours, canceled less than 14 days before departure, or if they are denied boarding. Compensation varies between 250 and 600 euros, depending on the distance of the flight.

Airlines will have clear obligations, providing assistance to stranded passengers, including meals and accommodation, depending on the duration of the delay. Additionally, children under 14 will be able to stay with their parents without additional charges, and persons with disabilities will receive compensation if they do not receive the necessary assistance.

The new rules impose transparency in ticket prices, including hand luggage. The agreement must be approved by the European Parliament and the EU Council, with the final vote scheduled for July. These changes come after a review of the rules, which have not been updated since 2004.
