Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan announced that the United States has accepted a waiver from sanctions for Lukoil, allowing Romania to restart the Petrotel-Lukoil refinery within 45 days. This refinery will produce diesel, gasoline, and kerosene, ensuring 21% of the national fuel needs and contributing to market stabilization. Ivan emphasized that Romania will not depend on imports, having the capacity to produce all its gasoline and over 60% of its diesel. Additionally, Lukoil gas stations in Romania have received a waiver from sanctions until October 29. The Petromidia refinery is already operating at maximum capacity, and Ivan assured that no Russian oil will be used, but rather oil from other sources. This development is considered an important victory for Romania's and the region's energy security, allowing the sale of products to neighboring countries and the European Union. Ivan mentioned that the state of emergency allows the Ministry of Energy to prioritize exports in NATO's interest.
