The United Kingdom has extended the license for the activities of Lukoil's subsidiaries in Bulgaria.

The United Kingdom has decided to extend, for the fourth time, the validity of the special license that allows companies to continue collaborating with the Bulgarian subsidiaries of Lukoil, a sanctioned Russian oil producer.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy announced that this decision comes in the wake of sanctions imposed by the United States and the United Kingdom on Lukoil and Rosneft, the largest Russian oil companies, following the invasion of Ukraine.

The general license allows firms to conduct transactions with Lukoil's subsidiaries in Bulgaria until October 29, 2026, thus ensuring the continuity of refinery operations and the security of fuel supply.

Initially, the license was set to expire on August 13, 2026. The Bulgarian government will continue to monitor the situation and collaborate with international partners to maintain the operation of the refinery.

Additionally, the U.S. Treasury announced that certain transactions with Lukoil International GmBH will be permitted until August 22.
