The United States announced on Monday the temporary suspension of sanctions against Iran, allowing the country to produce, sell, and deliver oil and oil products until August 21, 2026.

The Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, mentioned Tehran's commitments in the negotiations for a 'free and open transit' in the Strait of Hormuz and cooperation with inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency as reasons for this decision. Previously prohibited transactions regarding Iranian oil are now authorized. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, highlighted the progress made in negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, mentioning that oil exports are exempt from sanctions and that some assets have been unlocked.

At the same time, Brent crude oil futures fell by 3.3%. Tehran and Washington recently signed a memorandum that paves the way for 60 days of negotiations, following a period of intense conflicts.
