Iranian leaders are beginning to acknowledge the economic effects of the conflict with the USA, with the supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, urging the government to find solutions for the difficulties faced by the population.
The president stated that foreign trade has decreased by a third due to sanctions and the American blockade. Despite these challenges, Tehran promises to resist pressures and maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian government has declared that the approach to sanctions and combating inflation are central priorities, aiming to create jobs and reduce dependence on the dollar.
In the last six months, the USA has intensified sanctions, including against the Egyptian bank Banque Misr, and has warned countries to cut off trade relations with Iran. Inflation in Iran has reached 66%, and trade has decreased by 35%. However, the president mentioned that Iran has managed to sell approximately 90 million barrels of oil during the validity period of a memorandum of understanding with the USA.
