Iranian president warns that US pressure on Iran has reached a critical and dangerous stage

Masoud Pezeshkian warned on Friday, in India, that the pressure exerted by the United States on Iran had reached a “critical and dangerous stage.” The statement was made ahead of a summit of the BRICS diplomatic forum, amid military and economic tensions between Tehran, Washington, and Israel.

Pezeshkian said that Iran had been subjected to strong sanctions in recent years, and that the situation had worsened in recent months following what he called the military aggression by the United States and Israel against his country. The Iranian president argued that pressure on trade, energy, infrastructure, and the financial system has effects that extend beyond Iran’s borders.

The Iranian economy has been affected by decades of international sanctions. According to the cited information, Iran was attacked by the United States and Israel on February 28, after which the authorities in Tehran blocked the Strait of Hormuz. Before the war, approximately 20% of the world’s oil transited through this route. The blockade, maintained for six months, is contributing to rising fuel prices globally.
