Daniel Dăianu said that talk of Romania's default is unfounded, pointing to Fitch's maintenance of the rating as a positive sign. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan sounded the alarm, saying that the risks of default are real and require rapid spending cuts. Dăianu explained that the budgetary measures adopted are aimed at stabilizing public debt, while presidential adviser Radu Burnete rejected the idea of delays in the payment of salaries and pensions, but admitted that some investments could be postponed.
