Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that the evaluations of rating agencies, including Fitch, take into account the political stability and future prospects of Romania. He mentioned that Romania emerged from a difficult situation in 2025, adhering to commitments made to the European Commission regarding deficit corrections. Bolojan emphasized that the problems began in the spring when delays in budget approval, caused by scandals generated by the PSD, affected governmental stability.

The Prime Minister criticized the public rhetoric that contests the reforms, stating that they are necessary to correct financial imbalances. He also acknowledged that political instability and critical statements can negatively influence the evaluations of rating agencies. The interim Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, added that Romania risks a downgrade, although technical efforts have been made to prevent this. Fitch's decision will be published on July 31, 2026.

"Evaluations take into account two aspects. They consider what has happened up to the date of evaluation, they consider political stability and they consider the future perspective for 2027-2028. Clearly, we have emerged from 2025 from a very difficult situation. We made commitments to the European Commission, to our creditors that we would make certain deficit corrections that we have made so far and we have adhered to. Since spring, we have had problems related to the delay in budget approval, as a result of the scandals generated by the Social Democratic Party, the delays that occurred. We had the fall of the Government, an action that I said then, and I say now, was irresponsible, because at the moment you demolish something without putting anything in its place, it means that you did not think about the context of crises in which you find yourself," said Ilie Bolojan.
