COTAR has requested the Government to reduce excise duties on diesel and gasoline by at least 50% to support transport and the food industry, considering the threats in the international fuel market.

The Minister of Energy recently stated that fuel prices could reach 10 lei per liter, causing confusion and concern among operators. COTAR emphasized that current excise duties are significantly higher than the European average, affecting the competitiveness of Romanian carriers. The president of COTAR, Vasile Ștefănescu, warned that increases in excise duties influence final prices for consumers and could lead to a severe economic crisis, considering that Romania's economy relies on consumption. Additionally, the excise on gasoline has recently increased, contributing to the rise in fuel prices at the pump.
