Bogdan Ivan, former Minister of Energy from PSD, claims that more than half of the support provided by the state through the reduction of the excise duty on diesel has been absorbed by the subsequent price increases implemented by oil companies.
The former minister stated that the 20% reduction in the excise duty on diesel should have led to a significant decrease in prices, but prices have risen again, exceeding 10.20 - 10.40 lei per liter.
Ivan claims that more than half of the aid provided by the state has been absorbed by the increases from oil companies, despite the decrease in the price of a barrel of oil to 80 dollars. He urged the dismissed Prime Minister and the interim Minister of Energy to intervene urgently and send control teams from ANPC, ANAF, and the Competition Council to verify the situation.
Between August 16-31, 2026, the Ministry of Finance will apply a temporary 20% reduction in the excise duty for standard diesel, based on the mechanism provided by Law no. 162/2026 and the evolution of market indicators.
