The Ambassador of Brazil to Romania, Ricardo Guerra de Araujo, stated that the export of beef from Brazil complies with the sanitary standards of the European Union and other 160 countries, sometimes being even stricter than European regulations. During a conference, he emphasized the complexity of European bureaucracy and its impact on Romanian farmers. Araujo also addressed the misinformation related to the Mercosur agreement, stating that Brazilian exports will not flood the European market with inferior quality products. The tariff quota in the agreement corresponds to only 1.5% of the total beef consumption of the EU, equivalent to approximately 220 grams per capita per year. The free trade agreement, signed in December 2024, will come into effect in May 2026, and Brazil will benefit from tax exemptions for various products. The ambassador also announced the organization of a Romania-Brazil bilateral business forum in May, to facilitate discussions between the business communities of the two countries.
