The European Union will suspend, starting from September 3, imports of poultry meat, beef, eggs, and honey from Brazil, due to concerns regarding compliance with EU regulations on the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry. The European Commission stated that Brazil has not provided sufficient guarantees that its exports comply with standards aimed at preventing antibiotic abuse.

A spokesperson for the Commission confirmed that Brazil will no longer be allowed to export animals intended for food production and animal products for human consumption. In May, Brazil was included on an EU list of countries that do not comply with these standards. An audit of the poultry and beekeeping sectors in Brazil will conclude on Friday, and the resumption of poultry meat exports could take place in a few weeks, depending on positive conclusions and the agreement of EU member states. Imports of beef may take longer, depending on how quickly Brazil demonstrates compliance with EU requirements.
