Boeing Company requested a waiver on Friday from the new emissions rules imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in order to sell an additional 35 Boeing 777F cargo planes. These rules, which will come into effect in 2028, are intended to align the U.S. with international standards for reducing carbon emissions. Boeing argued that the 777-8 Freighter model, which will meet these limits, will not be available before the deadline, and the waiver would allow the company to respond to demand in the air cargo market. Boeing estimates that each 777F sold would contribute approximately $440 million to the U.S. trade balance, and without the waiver, exports worth over $15 billion could be lost. Additionally, Boeing emphasizes the fuel efficiency of the 777F model and the importance of cargo planes for American exports.
