The Farnborough Airshow, held between July 20 and 24, was marked by a shift in focus from commercial aircraft to defense technology, in the context of global geopolitical tensions.
The event's director, Gareth Rogers, emphasized that, although there is an increase in commercial orders, priorities have shifted due to current conflicts. SMBC Aviation Capital ordered 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, and Riyadh Air purchased six Airbus A350-1000 planes.
Defense manufacturers represent half of the 1,600 exhibitors, highlighting the increased demand for new defense technologies. Defense technology startups, which are developing drones and solutions based on Artificial Intelligence, could transform the industry, similar to the impact of SpaceX in the space launch sector.
The aerospace industry is facing supply challenges, and Airbus and Boeing are proposing to increase production to meet demand.
