The Belgian railway company SNCB/NMBS announced the launch of a new fare offer on October 15, which will make train travel more accessible. With the Train+ card, fares will be calculated based on the distance traveled, reducing the maximum ticket prices by 20%. Thus, a second-class journey for adults will cost a maximum of 20.90 EUR, compared to 26 EUR previously. Discounts of 40% will be offered for young people and seniors, and the Train+ card will allow for additional discounts on weekends and outside peak hours.
Previous subscriptions will be replaced by this new system, which will be available monthly or annually, at affordable prices. Additionally, SNCB is introducing a 'mini-group' fare for travelers in groups, offering significant discounts. Changes will also occur in first class and for bicycle transport. Reactions to these changes have been mixed, with some associations expressing concerns about the complexity of the new fares and possible confusion between peak hours and off-peak hours.
