Queen Mette-Marit of Norway was hospitalized at the National Hospital in Oslo on September 1, after experiencing medical complications related to the lung transplant she underwent in June.
The new king, Haakon VIII, also visited her in the hospital, after he took the oath of sovereignty before Parliament.
The Royal Palace announced that the queen would not be able to attend the ceremony for health reasons, and doctor Are Holm confirmed that Mette-Marit will remain under medical supervision.
Although she was present at the laying of the late King Harald V's coffin, her health condition required hospitalization.
Haakon VIII, who became king after the death of his father, emphasized the importance of the oath-taking ceremony, which marks the limits of the monarch's prerogatives according to the Constitution.
