The Public Employment Service of Spain (SEPE) provides essential financial support to workers who lose their jobs but have not contributed enough to qualify for unemployment benefits. This subsidy for insufficient contributions can reach up to 570 euros per month and can be granted for a maximum period of 21 months, depending on the personal situation of the applicant. The subsidy applies to those who have worked at least 90 days and are in legal unemployment, aiming to protect those with fragmented careers. The applicant must not exceed 75% of the Minimum Interprofessional Salary and must be registered as a person seeking employment. The recent reform of the subsidies has changed the amount of aid, which decreases progressively depending on the payment period. Those with family responsibilities may benefit from longer subsidy periods, and the aid becomes a temporary solution to provide financial stability while searching for a new job. For example, a worker laid off after six months of work, with a child in their care, can receive the maximum subsidy for an extended duration.
