According to a study conducted by Save the Children Romania, more than half of Romanian parents who have gone to work abroad miss a third of their children's childhood, especially during primary education and preadolescence. Men predominantly work in construction and agriculture, while women work as caregivers or housekeepers. 82% of parents intend to give up working abroad, the main reason being insufficient salaries. The study also highlights emotional difficulties, with 57% of mothers reporting feelings of loneliness.

Additionally, 91% of parents believe that maintaining an emotional connection with their children is a major challenge. The organization has provided support for over 16,000 children and 10,500 adults, emphasizing the negative impact of parents leaving on the children left at home.
