A band of Romanian thieves has been dismantled by the Canadian police, accused of stealing goods worth one million dollars from stores in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. Most of the suspects are Romanian refugees, and two of them have fled the country. The investigation began in August, following an increase in shoplifting incidents, and so far, 175 charges have been laid against the 21 suspects, many of whom have criminal records.
The gang carried out well-planned raids, especially at Shoppers Drug Mart stores, and was operating from a location in Mississauga to send the stolen goods to a warehouse in Brampton. Authorities suspect that the organization is part of an international network of trafficking in stolen goods. The police have conducted searches and arrested several members of the gang, who are charged with various offenses, including theft and membership in a criminal organization.
