The USR, led by Dominic Fritz, has challenged the government's decree of national mourning after the death of Ion Iliescu, set for August 7. Fritz emphasized that, out of respect for the victims of the Revolution and the mineriad, the party will not attend the funeral. While recognizing Iliescu's contribution to Romania's integration into NATO and the EU, Fritz said that the suffering of those who fought for freedom cannot be ignored and that many are waiting for justice.
