Timișoara Mayor Dominic Fritz reunited his supporters on Sunday at the “Timișoara. The Revolution Continues” event, organized three days before his mandate was due to end, amid the implementation of the new ANI law. In his speech in Timișoara, the USR leader accused a political majority of cutting short his mandate and said the decision was unfair to voters who elected him in 2020 and 2024.
Fritz said USR would not withdraw from the political fight and announced that its objective was to form a government without PSD and without AUR. He rejected the idea that Romania must choose between what he called the “old system,” represented by PSD and its allies, and AUR’s extremism.
The USR president said the party was prepared to support the formation of a political majority now or to participate in snap elections, if necessary. Fritz said the party was not afraid of the vote and would continue to fight, either in the next election or in the 2028 elections.
The event took place six years after the 2020 local elections and was presented by the organizers as a continuation of the political project launched in Timișoara.
