USR President Dominic Fritz proposes building a coalition of center-right reformist forces that would win the 2028 elections and form a government without PSD and AUR. The USR leader made the statement at a press conference following the party’s congress, held Saturday in Timișoara.
Fritz announced that USR is open to broader cooperation with PNL, not only in Bucharest and major cities, but across the country. He argued that the political alternative the party seeks to build cannot grow on the basis of USR alone and that, over the next two years, the reformist alliance will be expanded.
USR’s new strategy focuses on winning the 2028 elections and the party entering “fierce but constructive” opposition. Fritz said the party would continue trying to promote solutions and results for Romanians, in line with the actions of USR ministers during their time in government.
The USR leader accused PSD of trying to extend its control over state institutions and warned that an excessive concentration of power could undermine democracy and freedoms. He also criticized economic policies that he said had led to higher interest costs, claiming that approximately 12 billion euros in public funds are directed annually toward paying them.
