USR President Dominic Fritz said Sunday, at the USR Timiș County Conference, that the party’s move into opposition will turn it into the PSD’s main target, adding that the party will soon take power. The USR leader believes that forming a reformist bloc together with the PNL and reform-oriented forces in politics and civil society could give the party a real chance of winning the 2028 elections.
The conference in Timișoara aimed to appoint delegates to the USR Congress on October 31, where the composition of the National Bureau, the party’s executive body, will be elected.
Dominic Fritz warned that USR could become a target of the PSD, as well as of certain individuals in the judiciary and oversight institutions, according to a statement from the party cited by Agerpres. The claims were also backed by representatives of USR Timiș, who accused the PSD of exerting political pressure on local government.
Deputy mayors Ruben Lațcău and Paula Romocean said that the team at Timișoara City Hall remains united and that modernization projects, public investments and administrative reforms must continue.
USR Timiș President Sorin Șipoș presented the objectives for the 2028 local elections: retaining Timișoara City Hall and winning control of the Timiș County Council. USR announced plans to strengthen its local organizations and prepare an administrative program for the county.
