Radu Miruță, the new vice president of USR, stated in Timișoara that Dominic Fritz will remain the party's president until 2029 and that there are no intentions to replace him. The statement was made after the USR congress, during which the new collective leadership was elected.
Miruță said that Fritz is respected both within the party and in the political sphere, including within the governing coalition. He rejected reports of a possible change in the USR leader and maintained that the party is heading in the right direction.
Asked whether he would run for the USR presidency after Fritz's term ends, in 2029, Radu Miruță did not give a direct answer. He spoke about the party's electoral objectives and the possibility that USR could achieve better results in the next elections.
At the congress in Timișoara, delegates voted only on the new collective leadership. Radu Miruță, Diana Buzoianu, Iulian Lorincz, Radu Mihaiu and Irineu Darău were elected vice presidents, with Miruță receiving the most votes. The office of president was not put to a vote, as Dominic Fritz was elected in the summer of 2025 for a four-year term.
