The TAROM company will increase the price of airline tickets as a result of rising costs for aviation fuel, especially kerosene, announced the general director Bogdan Costaș. This measure is part of a large restructuring process that must be completed this year according to the requirements of the European Commission. Costaș emphasized that the increase in kerosene prices has a direct impact on fares, and the increases will occur during the summer period, without specifying an exact percentage. Passengers who have already purchased tickets will not pay the difference.
TAROM will limit itself to a maximum of 27 fixed routes and will operate with no more than 14 aircraft, receiving two Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in July and August. The company will develop charter flights for travel agencies, already having contracts for destinations such as Croatia and Egypt. Employee representatives draw attention to the difficulties in implementing the restructuring plan, mentioning that it was designed in a different economic context. TAROM has already received 50 million lei last year and is expecting another 64 million lei by the end of the year.
