Radu Miruță: TAROM will send the European Commission a new schedule for restructuring / "TAROM planes must fly"

The interim Minister of Transport, Radu Miruță, announced that TAROM will inform the European Commission regarding the delay in implementing the restructuring plan and will submit, in September, a revised plan based on real financial data.

"Since this company needs to operate and has strategic importance for Romania, following the meeting at the ministry, the following decisions were made, with concrete steps and responsibilities:

-within the next 3 days we will inform the European Commission through a letter that what TAROM was supposed to do by June 1 and did not do will be accomplished in an accelerated manner;

-in six weeks we will propose a project for the future of TAROM and we will request a meeting with the European Commission to present the arguments;

-in mid-September we will submit an honest plan, built on real financial data, on certain revenues and reduced expenses." Radu Miruță wrote on Facebook.

The minister warned that if by the end of 2026 TAROM does not manage to demonstrate that the restructuring plan is viable, the European Commission may request Romania to return the state aid granted for the restructuring of the airline operator. He criticized the former management for failing to meet the commitments made and stated that the new plan will be built on real financial indicators, not on unrealistic estimates.
