On Wednesday morning, police and prosecutors from Pitești conducted searches as part of an operation against an organized criminal group suspected of document forgery. Seven Romanian and Moldovan citizens are accused of creating false identity documents and driving licenses, claiming that these are issued by the authorities in the Republic of Moldova, in exchange for considerable sums of money. The action is coordinated by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) and is supported by the gendarmes.
In parallel, searches were also conducted in the Republic of Moldova, under a cooperation agreement under the auspices of Eurojust, to gather evidence. The suspects are accused of several crimes, including material forgery in official documents and illegal access to a computer system. Hearings are taking place at the DIICOT headquarters in Pitești.
