The National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) approved urgent measures to ensure the water flow necessary for the operation of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, under the conditions of the lowest flow on the Danube in recent history.

Among the adopted measures are the continuation of dredging works on the Danube in the Cernavodă area, coordinated by the Lower Danube River Administration and the National Administration "Apele Române". Additionally, an embankment will be built on the Old Danube to divert water towards the Danube - Black Sea canal, thus ensuring the water intake for cooling the plant. The Ministry of Energy and Hidroelectrica will release water from the accumulations on the Olt River, increasing the flow by 50 cubic meters per second for 5 days.

The Department for Emergency Situations will mobilize high-capacity pumps to maintain the necessary water level.

The measures were established following analyses conducted by the involved institutions and consulted specialists.
