Three dredging machines are intervening in the Cernavodă area to reshape the Danube riverbed and redirect part of the flow towards the nuclear power plant, thus ensuring the necessary amount of water for restarting the reactors. The works began in the second half of August, however, the authorities cannot provide a completion date due to the low level of the Danube, which is below the usual average for this period.

According to the National Institute of Hydrology, the flow of the Danube at Baziaș was approximately 1,600 cubic meters per second, well below the average of 3,900 cubic meters per second. The interventions are taking place without a deadline, and the authorities are constantly analyzing the evolution of the flow.

A dredger, a vessel built for dredging and removing sediments from the Lower Danube River Administration in Galați, and two machines from the National Administration 'Apele Române', which were transported from other areas of the country, are participating in the operation. The construction of a regulation dam is also being considered, but the works have not yet started, as further analyses are needed.
