The National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) has adopted a resolution that establishes a phased plan of measures to ensure the water flow necessary for the operation of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, considering the forecast of decreasing flow of the Danube starting from September 10.

The resolution provides for the establishment of a temporary, modular, and reversible intervention system in the area of the confluence of the Old Danube with the Danube – Black Sea Canal. The plan will be activated if the water level falls below 1.58 meters in the water intake basin of the plant. In the first phase, vessels will be positioned to direct more water towards the canal, and in the second phase, a modular closure with pontoons will be implemented.

If these measures are not sufficient, high-capacity pumps will be used to ensure additional water supply. The works will be financed from the budget of the Ministry of Environment, and the measures will be adapted according to the evolution of the Danube's water level. The resolution was published in the Official Gazette of Romania no. 741 on September 2, 2026.
