A group of parliamentarians from the Party of Young People (POT) has proposed building the “Dacians Motorway,” a high-speed road that would cross the Jiu Valley and connect Deva with Petroșani. The bill sets out the investment route and provides a four-year deadline for construction.
Under the initiative, the motorway would pass through Simeria, Călan, Hațeg and Binița before reaching Petroșani. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, through CNAIR, would have to organize, within no more than 90 days of the law’s entry into force, a tender for the preparation of the feasibility study and the technical design.
Funding would primarily come from non-reimbursable external funds, including European programs, as well as from the state budget through the Ministry of Transport. The initiative also allows the use of other funding sources provided for by law.
However, the project received negative opinions, including from the Economic and Social Council. The ESC argues that approving investment objectives falls under the executive branch and considers the investment insufficiently substantiated. The institution also criticized the route, which was analyzed separately from the priorities established in national transport documents。
