A polar air mass has entered Romania, causing a significant drop in temperatures across the country. On July 22, the director of the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), Elena Mateescu, announced that 21 weather stations recorded the lowest maximum temperatures since the beginning of official measurements.

In the Capital, all three weather stations broke previous records for this date, with values of 17.4°C at Băneasa and 18°C at Filaret. Mornings have been unusually cold, with temperatures dropping to 8°C in some areas, although historical absolute minimums have not been exceeded.

Elena Mateescu explained that these low temperatures are caused by a polar air wave, which will persist until the end of the week. Although the cool weather will continue, a return of the heatwave is expected next week, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.
